Rather than a simple toggle, the Sonic 3 A.I.R. community uses mods that alter how rings are lost or collected to ensure you never run out:
: This mod prevents the loss of all rings upon taking damage. Instead, you only lose a set amount (e.g., 20 rings), making it much easier to maintain a high count throughout a level.
If you prefer not to use a third-party mod, you can use the built-in to manually add rings.
: In some versions, if you have both Sonic and Tails on-screen, you can use Debug Mode to place a ring directly onto Tails repeatedly to gain up to 900 rings. Installing Mods for Sonic 3 A.I.R.
: On the Level Select screen (unlocked by pressing Left, Left, Left, Right, Right, Right, Up, Up, Up on the swinging vines in Angel Island Act 1), enter the sound test.
: In Debug Mode (press B to toggle), you can spawn "S" boxes. Jumping on these instantly gives you 50 rings.
